Missional Communities? Who’s In?

I’m wondering what you’re thinking about the missional community trend?  Are you giving some thought to how it works in your context?  As you know, I tagged it as one of the most important current grouplife trends earlier this year.

I’d love some feedback.  If you need some insight into the concept, you can take a look at my interviews with Mike Breen or Seacoast’s Josh Walters.

I believe it is apostolic to be missional. Several years ago my small group began praying and reaching out to a particular community in our zip code. Several times a year we place invitations on the doors of the community. Last year we took it to the streets and brought a Back to School Fair to this community. We gave away school supplies and our youth group provided live music. We collected contact information from many residents as they filled out our address cards for a drawing for back packs. The community association has invited us to return this August for a “Night Out” where the residents can enjoy live music and we have been given permission to evangelize. Our small group is also returning near the end of August for another Back to School Fair.
