Here are the most frequently asked questions (and the answers!) about How to Choose the Best Small Group Model for Your Church:
Is the small group model we’re using really that important? Great question! The model you use is vitally important because it really is the design of your ministry. And, as Andy Stanley has well stated, “Your ministry is perfectly designed to produce the results you are currently experiencing.” The model you are using plays a very big role in determining your results. If you like your results, you’re probably using a model that is helping make that happen. If you’re concerned about your results, the model is most likely behind your inability to do certain things well.
I believe the question, “What is the best model for our church?” is behind only “Why do we have small groups at our church?”
What will be covered in How to Choose the Best Small Group Model for Your Church? The content covered in the 4 sessions will help you develop four critical understandings, skills and strategies:
- The tools you need to wisely select the specific identifiers of the preferred future your church dreams of reaching (This is very important since your decision about where you want to go and what you want to make (i.e., what kind of disciples, what characteristics do we want our people to have, etc.) ought to inform your choice of model.
- An in depth understanding of the 6 most popular models (Free MarketSemester (Activate), Sermon-Based Semester (North Coast, MetaChurch/Cell Church (Willow Creek), Campaign-Driven(Saddleback), GroupLink-Driven (North Point), Missional Communities (Austin Stone). This is important because many small group pastors make decisions about the model to use based on a single book, blog post, or conference.
- Proven strategies that will help you tune up your small group model to achieve optimum performance. This is important because it may turn out that you’ve already implemented a less robust version of the model that if tuned up correctly will begin performing better.
- A transition toolkit to help you move skillfully from your current model to another. This is important because changing from one model to another can unnecessarily result in uncertainty and concern on the part of small group leaders and key leaders in your church (elders, other staff, etc.). Skillfully moving from your current model to another will make the transition much more effective.
