FULL DISCLOSURE: I’m Still Not a Theorist

Share via:

For over 35 years of pastoral ministry, usually in paid positions but occasionally a volunteer, I've always maintained that I'm a practitioner, not a theorist.

"I'm not a theorist. I am a practitioner."

That's been an important truth for me over the years for a number of reasons. Primarily because I've never wanted to be someone who proposed strategies that "should work."

If you're reading this now, you've probably gotten to know me (and my work) through my writing here at MarkHowellLive.com. And whether you've read one of my articles or watched one of my video courses, you have probably found it helpful to know that my practices are based on personal experience.

In other words, I've already used the strategy that I'm trying to encourage you to use.

I'm not a theorist. I am a practitioner.

In case you're wondering, I finished my most recent full time ministry assignment in 2021. Since then I've continued to provide coaching and consulting for a number of churches. (If you're interested in finding out how that works, you can find out more right here).

I've known some theorists over the years.

I've taken more than my share of theoretical thinking and worked out the kinks to make it work in practice (not just in theory).

But at the end of the day, I'm happy to say I'm still not a theorist. I am a practitioner.

P.S. If you need some help from a practitioner with over 35 years of experience...I'm your man.  And you can find out more about how I can help you right here.
