The Quest: An Excursion Toward Intimacy with God

Spent some time this week with the newest study from Beth Moore. The Quest: An Excursion Toward Intimacy with God is a 6 session study with an interesting new approach. First, different than the typical approach of a Beth Moore study (in-depth studies of the patriarchs of Genesis and books of the Bible) The Quest, focuses “entirely on one colossal goal: to offer an excursion packed with Scriptures and set up specifically to increase an individual’s intimacy with God.”

Second, along with this different approach in the study itself, the format takes a unique approach as well. Bracketed by Moore’s normal long form video sessions (the opening session is 64 minutes, the closing session is 57 minutes) the four sessions between average 14 to 20 minutes.

Finally, although The Quest could be offered in the typical format (a weekly meeting featuring the video session and discussion of the “homework” with your group), it is actually designed to be offered with the normal large group setting only on the first and last week and working alone through the very personal journey of the daily quest assignments in weeks two through five.

The Study Journal includes many of the expected ingredients. A video viewer guide and space for notes about the video segment. 5 days of personal journey, each focusing on a “divine question,” for example, week one focuses on:

  • Where are you? (Genesis 3:9)
  • Who told you that? (Genesis 3:11)
  • What are you seeking? (John 1:39)
  • Why are you afraid? (Matthew 8:26)
  • How much more…? Luke 11:13

The Study Journal also includes space to record your discoveries from the week just experienced.

Finally, the Study Journal includes a Leader’s Guide that gives a helpful overview of how to make the The Quest a great experience for participants.

I think The Quest will give participants a different experience than the typical Beth Moore study. Its unique approach offers a journey, a quest, that will take committed participants toward greater intimacy with God. I really like the approach! For the women that actually take the journey, this will be a life-changing experience.
