Update: Childcare Policies for Off-Campus Groups

Share via:

Do you have childcare worker policies and procedures for off-campus groups? That’s the short version of a question that was asked last week. The question was prompted by on-campus childcare/ministry liability concerns that are mitigated (big word meaning “make less severe”) by policies and procedures (i.e., fingerprinting, child-worker ratios, 2 person rule, etc.).

Turns out every survey completed indicated that they had no policies or procedures for off-campus childcare for small groups. In addition, none of the surveys indicated that they’d ever had a problem that resulted in liability for the home-owner or the church.

Should your church have a policy? You’ll need to consult your attorney and/or insurer. Based on the survey results, it doesn’t appear to be an issue in many churches.

Are the survey results posted? I’m curious… how many people took the survey? Thanks for sharing!

Krista, I got only 13 responses. All 13 indicated that they did not have policy or procedures for off-campus small group childcare. In addition, all 13 indicated that they’d never had any homeowner or church liability issues.
